£34k will do a Lotta good in com­mu­nity

Five or­gan­i­sa­tions from through­out West Loth­ian have been awarded over £34,000 in fund­ing from the Na­tional Lottery.

Fast For­ward (Pos­i­tive Life­styles) Lim­ited, Lady­well Playgroup, Fun Lit­tle Ed­u­ca­tion, Next Step Foun­da­tion and Men­tor UK in part­ner­ship with Liv­ingston FC were awarded £34,166 be­tween them through the lat­est round of fund­ing from the Na­tional Lottery Awards For All Scot­land.

Fast For­ward (Pos­i­tive Life­styles) Lim­ited were given £ 5,806 to train a group of school pupils to de­liver re­la­tion­ships work­shops in com­mu­nity cen­tres/youth clubs in Ed­in­burgh and West Loth­ian.

Fun Lit­tle Ed­u­ca­tion was awarded £9,600 to pro­vide events and ac­tiv­i­ties for fam­i­lies, with the aim of bring­ing the whole com­mu­nity to­gether.

Next Step Foun­da­tion were given £3,840 to de­liver an em­ploy­a­bil­ity pro­gramme to young peo­ple aged be­tween 16- 21 years of age from Black­burn, West Loth­ian, and Pol­lok in Glas­gow. The course will run for 18 weeks and the young peo­ple will take part in var­i­ous learn­ing ac­tiv­i­ties whilst work­ing to­wards an ac­cred­ited SQA Em­ploy­a­bil­ity Award.

Men­tor UK were awarded £8,670 to es­tab­lish a new kin­ship care group tar­get­ing male car­ers in as­so­ci­a­tion with Liv­ingston FC.

Lady­well Playgroup re­ceived £6,250 to re­place worn out equip­ment and pro­vide trips for their playgroup in Lady­well, Liv­ingston.

Janie Mar­shall, group leader at Lady­well Playgroup, wel­comed the fund­ing.

She said: “We’re over the moon. It will make a huge dif­fer­ence. We’re go­ing to get some new pieces of fur­ni­ture that we need and we’re go­ing to go on some trips with the chil­dren and we’re go­ing to do Par­ents as Part­ners where kids take bags of things and use them with the par­ents and the par­ents are go­ing to come in as well.”

A Na­tional Lottery Awards for All spokesper­son said: “This is Na­tional Lottery money mak­ing a real im­pact help­ing bring peo­ple and com­mu­ni­ties to­gether across Scot­land.

“Many of these projects will give peo­ple who feel lonely and cut off from the out­side world a chance to re­con­nect and make new friends. All the projects re­ceiv­ing fund­ing to­day are fan­tas­tic ex­am­ples of small amounts of money mak­ing a big dif­fer­ence.”
