Scrab­ble casts its spell on the West

WORDSMITHS from more than 30 coun­tries will be in Devon later this month when the World Scrab­ble Cham­pi­onships comes to the West Coun­try for the first time.

Heats will take place in Torquay from Oc­to­ber 23 to 27, with the fi­nal two play­ers battling it out in Lon­don on Oc­to­ber 28.

Elite play­ers will go head-to­head as they com­pete for a prize pool of more than £15,000.

Key play­ers tak­ing part in the tour­na­ment in­clude Aus­tralian David El­dar, who will be de­fend­ing his world cham­pion ti­tle.

A to­tal of 35 games will be played across four days.
