Phil’s pain in historic loco ‘photobomb’

THIS is the moment a trainspotter waiting to get a picture of Flying Scotsman had his shot ruined – by a passing diesel.

Phil Shaw, 44, read about the historic train doing a tour, so he went down to a Devon beauty spot where the tracks pass a stunning vista.

He got himself into an elevated position and framed the perfect shot before waiting patiently for the train to come into view.

But just as Flying Scotsman arrived in Dawlish, a local diesel train blew its whistle and thundered into the scene, blocking the historic engine from view.

Phil, a train driver from Paignton, said: “It didn’t go as planned.

“Having the day off work I thought I had a few hours to kill so I went down and got myself into a good position.

“I waited for about an hour-and-ahalf and then, sod’s law, the diesel went past at the same time as the Flying Scotsman, so we missed it.

“There were quite. a few people there. I bet theyE were gutted.

“There was a whistle and you could hear the train blow his horn.

“Someone behind me said, ‘Oh no, the train is coming’. There was a communal sigh.”
