Eatery forced to shut af­ter bird flies in

A BRANCH of Pizza Hut had to close af­ter a pi­geon got in­side and would not shift for hours.

Cus­tomers were turned away from the eatery dur­ing the in­ci­dent and en­vi­ron­men­tal health in­spec­tors were called in.

It is un­clear how the pi­geon man­aged to en­ter the restau­rant, in Ex­eter, Devon, but staff were un­able to dis­lodge it for sev­eral hours.

They said the eatery was given a deep clean be­fore re­open­ing the fol­low­ing day.

A Pizza Hut spokesper­son said: “Health and safety is of the ut­most im­por­tance to Pizza Hut restaurants and we are com­mit­ted to main­tain­ing high stan­dards in all our restaurants.

“Our restau­rant at Exe Bridges in Ex­eter closed tem­po­rar­ily for a few hours on Septem­ber 27 due to a pi­geon be­ing in­side the restau­rant.

“Our in­de­pen­dent in­spec­tors vis­ited the restau­rant and re­moved the pi­geon.”

They added: “As per our stan­dard pro­ce­dure, a full clean was un­der­taken prior to re­open­ing the next day to en­sure we con­tinue to meet our strin­gent lev­els of hy­giene.”
