I did not know my father,

I should have known

I did not know the part he played, The future he fought for

I should have known.

He came back, wounded sapper in trench and underground

He was cited for a medal, he never got.

I did not know.

A young man at 18, an old man at 21.

Wipers (Ypres) he saw, not as I have seen but razed to the ground.

No mis-spent youth, just spent youth!

He fought for King and country and for me

I am often sad cos I’d not known Dad

I wish I had
