Tigers lose goalkeeper

Western Daily Press - - Football -

GLOUCESTER City’s new boss Chris Todd is on the lookout for a new goalkeeper after Matt Yates was recalled by Derby County.

Yates joined the Tigers at the beginning of the season and was set to stay until Christmas.

After signing a first professional contract in May 2017, Yates stepped up to Derby’s Under-23 for the 2017/18 campaign.

He has been on the books of the Derby County Academy since the age of nine and is the son of the club’s former player Dean Yates.

During his time with the Tigers, Matt Yates has established himself as a fans’ favourite with some fine performances in the league, and notably in Tuesday’s FA Cup third qualifying round replay win against Dorking Wanderers.

Todd is now speaking to a number of clubs in his hunt for a replacement. Andrew Hannah, who has been playing for Mangotsfield United in Southern League Division One South, is also signed with the Tigers and could step in if required.

Gloucester make the journey to Billericay in the National League South tomorrow.
