West routes plan for National Trail
HOPES for the England Coast Path to run along North Somerset’s coast moved a step closer yesterday.
Five of the six sections in the North Somerset area were yesterday given the green light by the Government.
Those sections cover from the Avonmouth Bridge through Portishead to Clevedon and from Sand Bay through Weston-superMare to Bleadon Sluice.
It means North Somerset Council can now begin on the grant applications to pay for the work required to make these routes part of the National Trail, currently being developed around the entire English coast by Natural England.
It is estimated that these sections of the path in North Somerset will be properly established by late 2021.
“This is the first positive step in a long process,” said Cllr Caritas Charles, North Somerset
Council’s executive member for leisure, culture and tourism.
