Train fire forces passengers out

-

PASSENGERS were evacuated from their rush-hour Arriva Wales train yesterday after a fire broke out in one of the carriages.

The fire, believed to have been caused by an electrical fault, caused lengthy delays until 10pm for commuters using the Bargoed and Rhymney services.

Passenger Owen Samuel said: “The third carriage from the front was smoking while in Cardiff Queen Street. The driver thought it wasn’t an issue so we boarded. After the tunnel just before Caerphilly the carriages started filling with smoke and then in Caerphilly smoke had filled some carriages and everyone had to get off.”

An Arriva spokesperson said the incident would be “investigated fully”.
