Swim­mer fac­ing rape re­trial

A COM­MON­WEALTH Games swim­mer will face a re­trial charged with rape af­ter a jury was un­able to reach a ver­dict, a court has heard.

Otto Put­land, 23, will stand trial at Cardiff Crown Court in De­cem­ber ac­cused of one charge of rape, which is al­leged to have hap­pened in July 2015.

The de­fen­dant, who rep­re­sented Wales at the 2014 Com­mon­wealth Games in Glas­gow, had de­nied the al­le­ga­tion dur­ing his trial.

Judge Jeremy Jenk­ins ad­journed the case un­til De­cem­ber 4 and re­leased Put­land, of Dine­dor, near Here­ford, on con­di­tional bail.
