Broken glass can cause big problems

-

I HAVE just been reading about the woman who was fined for dropping a fag end. She picked it up but was fined, and it has escalated now, £75 went up to hundreds. She says she will go to prison first, well, it might have been more sensible to pay £75, anyway, it’s her choice.

We hear of fines for littering, and fines for dog fouling, which can cause blindness in children. I do agree with these fines. Litter can be taken home, or put in bins.

I have a number of questions regarding the dropping of bottles on the pavements and roads. Broken glass can cause problems to cars, punctures, etc. It is £30 to see a vet, then there is the treatment. These broken glass bottles break into very dangerous shards.

The bottles could be heat-treated to break into smaller pieces like a windscreen. There could be a deposit scheme, which pays a deposit, on the bottles, so that it pays to return bottles. I see bottle and glass banks. Perhaps bottles are re-used I don’t know. I have no idea how glass is recycled.

It would save a lot of energy to re-use glass bottles.

What with all the talk about litter and fag ends, I never hear about the practice of dangerous glass bottles, being smashed on the pavements and roads, and I never see them being swept up.

I was wondering what the ruling is on throwing the dangerous broken, glass, into litter bins.

In fact they are lethal, some of them, as council workers, have to handle the waste.
