Quest win rights for TV highlights

Western Mail - - SPORT -

CHAMPIONSHIP football highlights are set to be shown on lowprofile TV channel Quest as of next season.

Footage of Cardiff City’s league games are currently aired by Channel 5 at 9pm on Saturday nights, as has been the case for the last three seasons.

But EFL bosses are set to announce that Football League highlights will be aired on Quest from the start of the 2018-19 campaign as they look to increase their viewing figures which have significantly dwindled since moving from the previous graveyard slot after Match of the Day to Channel 5, despite the fact the programme goes live at a prime-time slot.

As far as Cardiff are concerned, it would of course depend on the Bluebirds failing to secure promotion into the Premier League, although it will affect League Two side Newport County providing that Michael Flynn’s men don’t drop out of the Football League.

It remains unclear who will present the new programme as the official announcement is yet to be made.

Quest is currently channel 37 on Freeview and it is channel 144 for Sky viewers.
