Appalled by Griffiths’ Hinkley comments

Western Mail - - WM2 | VIEWS OF WALES - Tim Richards, Secretary of the South Wales Anti-Nuclear Alliance Abertridwr

I WAS appalled to read that Lesley Griffiths, the “Environment” Minister, has stooped to making loose statements against activists like myself concerned about the mud from Hinkley Point being dumped in Cardiff Bay.

I was also very sorry to see that her claims that we have “told lies” made the headline in your article, but she gives herself away by not actually saying what those lies were or who told them.

In fact we have been very careful to stick to what we do know and we do know that she and the Welsh Government broke the law by not carrying out an Environmental Impact Assessment into the possible risks of dumping the mud without adequate testing for radioactive particles.

That is highly irresponsible and I am surprised that my local Labour AM Hefin David believes what the nuclear power “experts” tell him without realising that the industry is self-regulated.

Unfortunately he has not even bothered to reply to my email in which I tried to explain to him the risks of low-level radiation and urged him to make his own judgements.
