Remembrance coin revealed

THE Royal Mint has revealed its Remembrance Day commemorative coin, which features a design created by a Welsh coin designer.

Laura Clancy has been a member of the coin design team at The Royal Mint in Llantrisant for more than a decade, and this year’s Remembrance Day coin will feature her poppy design highlighted with vivid colour printing.

Laura said: “On a research trip to France and Belgium a guide took us around the museums, cemeteries and memorials. It was such a privilege and source of inspiration.

“Poppies and remembrance are synonymous, so I wanted the poppy to be the main feature of the coin.

“My previous designs have included a bigger one with a much larger inscription. For this, I wanted to keep it simple.”

Laura’s previous work includes the Portrait of Britain series, a coin honouring 150 years of the Salvation Army, and the 2014 Remembrance Day coin, which featured her Falling Poppies design.

The Royal Mint’s Remembrance Day coin is available in a range of finishes and a donation from every purchase is made to Imperial War Museums to support their valuable work.
