Homes closed in crack­down on drug use

Devon pro­fes­sional surfer and 2018 Love Is­land star Laura Crane has been rushed to hospi­tal with a se­ri­ous ill­ness.

Laura, from North Devon, has been in hospi­tal for three days bat­tling the po­ten­tially fa­tal con­di­tion sep­sis.

A spokesman for Laura, 23, said: “Laura is sadly quite un­well. She was rushed in on Tues­day and they quickly di­ag­nosed sep­sis.

“It’s tak­ing time to con­trol her tem­per­a­ture and rid her blood of the in­fec­tion, but it had spread quite rapidly.

“A scary time for her and her fam­ily but we’re pray­ing she makes a full re­cov­ery in the next cou­ple of days.”

Laura, 23, has shared a video with her fol­low­ers and ap­pears to be re­cov­er­ing.

She is hop­ing to be re­leased from hospi­tal soon. Po­lice were out in force in New­ton Ab­bot yes­ter­day ex­e­cut­ing a se­ries of clo­sure or­ders to close homes at the cen­tre of al­le­ga­tions of an­ti­so­cial be­hav­iour and drug use.

Three homes in the town are be­ing shut down by Devon & Corn­wall Po­lice af­ter per­mis­sion was granted by mag­is­trates.

One prop­erty be­ing shut down is in a road which has wit­nessed sev­eral high-pro­file in­ci­dents in the last year.

Last year a 36-year-old was ar­rested on Prospect Ter­race with a se­ri­ous head in­jury, fol­low­ing an armed po­lice oper­a­tion.

It fol­lowed an in­ci­dent on the same street in­volv­ing a po­lice raid in Novem­ber 2017.

An­other man was found with a large plas­tic bag con­tain­ing a large num­ber of wraps be­lieved to con­tain heroin and crack co­caine.
