Pen­sioner in hospi­tal af­ter ‘ar­son’ at­tack

A man in his 70s was taken to hospi­tal fol­low­ing a fire at a prop­erty in Liskeard. Po­lice said the fire at a res­i­den­tial prop­erty on Poldhu Road yes­ter­day morn­ing is be­lieved to have been started de­lib­er­ately. Of­fi­cers are cur­rently treat­ing the mat­ter as sus­pected ar­son with in­tent to en­dan­ger life. A spokesman from Corn­wall Fire and Res­cue Ser­vice said three fire crews, from Liskeard, Looe and Calling­ton, were called to the scene at 6.43am yes­ter­day. Crews wear­ing breath­ing ap­pa­ra­tus res­cued one per­son and ex­tin­guished the fire. A spokesman from Devon and Corn­wall Po­lice said: “A man in his 70s is be­ing treated for smoke in­hala­tion. He was taken to Der­ri­ford Hospi­tal. His in­juries are not thought to be se­ri­ous.” Any­one with in­for­ma­tion about the fire is urged to call po­lice on 101, quot­ing crime ref­er­ence CR103588/18.
