‘Buy local’ to help our own food producers

-

COVID-19 has brought into sharp focus the importance to our health in relation to food quality, security, standards and animal welfare.

Many people I meet have a stronger awareness of what we eat and where it comes from. As consumers, we have never been so well informed.

Intensive farming practices have been shown to have a strongly negative effect on our environment and is prejudicial to animal welfare in particular. These practices have no place in our country where we already produce most of our basic needs. In Devon, we are well placed to build a better, stronger and sustainable food system by buying local, waste less, support our farmers and local food suppliers, and by doing so rebuild our local economy.

The WMN have long been doing their bit to promote local rather than global in our food chain. It has never been a better time to redouble your efforts.
