In with the old – and in with the new, too
One of the joys of being a music lover in 2017 is the sheer number of ways we can access our music. For us at What Hi-fi? – and for many of you, judging by the remarkable buoyancy of the vinyl market – not much can beat the ceremony of putting a 12-inch disc onto the platter of a turntable. Sales of record decks are rising along with the discs we play on them, so in this issue we bring you a round-up of mid-range decks (p36) that we recommend for when your hobby starts to get serious. Along with vinyl comes the brave new world of high-resolution audio. And (who’d have thought it?) we love that too. To get the very best from hi-res files, though, your smartphone won’t cut it. So we’ve also rounded up a variety of Personal Music Players (p53) that should reveal to you precisely what all the fuss is about: with a PMP, you can enjoy great hi-fi both at home and on the move.
