Louisa is desperate for a new addition to the family as Doc Martin returns

What's on TV - - Tv Week -

The last series saw grumpy Doc Martin and his wife Louisa struggling to fix their troubled relationship, as they experienced the pain of a trial separation.

The good news is they’re now back together, but it’s not all happy families. To Martin’s horror, Louisa wants a four-legged friend for their young son James Henry.

‘We couldn’t carry on with the will-they-won’t-they, so we’re now exploring Martin and Louisa co-habiting, with James Henry and their new addition, Buddy,’ says Martin Clunes, who plays the doctor.

‘Martin’s heart is full now that he’s reunited with Louisa, but nothing annoys him more than sharing a house with a filthy, stinking dog. He can’t stand it! I always laugh when I think of Doc Martin suffering!’

Martin also reveals that this year’s series of the cosy Cornish comedy features a rather dramatic stunt.

‘We have one episode that’s quite Tarantino-esque!’ he says with a laugh. ‘One character has a bleed from the femoral artery, the one in your leg that’s a bit of a gusher. In real life, you’d bleed out in about four minutes!’

This year will also see the return of Hollywood guest star Sigourney Weaver and Martin’s Men Behaving

Badly co-star Caroline Quentin.

‘It was terrific having Caroline back,’ he smiles. ‘We didn’t dare hope Sigourney would want to do it again, but it was her idea. She’s got some lovely scenes this time.’
