Tales of the future!
Richard Madden stars in the first of a new drama series based on Philip K Dick’s sci-fi short stories…
The dystopian stories of sci-fi author Philip K Dick have long inspired filmmakers, giving us such classics as Blade Runner, Total Recall, Minority Report, plus hit Amazon series The Man in The High Castle.
Now, 35 years after his death, C4 is bringing more of his tales to the small screen in a 10-part series, starting with this week’s episode, The Hood Maker.
Set in a future world without advanced technology and the internet, the dark drama follows mutant telepaths, aka ‘teeps’, whose mind-reading abilities are being used by the government – much to the anger of the public.
But when people begin receiving hoods that can block telepathic powers, a hotshot detective, Agent Ross (Richard Madden), is teamed up with a teep, the mysterious Honor (Holliday Grainger), and sent to investigate. Who is sending the hoods and why are they such a threat?
Other big names set to appear in the much-anticipated series include Boardwalk Empire star Steve Buscemi and Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston.
‘It’s a strange and intriguing world,’ says former Game of Thrones star Richard.
‘The government has passed a bill that allows teeps to force-read people without permission, so the public are at breaking point and the hoods become very relevant, very quickly.’
