Grant Show as Blake Carrington. Expect catfights to rival those of Joan Collins’ Alexis in the original
With its feuding families, catfights and megabucks business deals, US series Dynasty was compelling viewing in the 1980s. The vicious fights between glamorous rivals Alexis Colby, played by Joan Collins, and Krystle Carrington (Linda Evans), and the ruthless plotting of billionaire oil mogul Blake Carrington were TV gold.
Now the iconic show, which ran from 1981 to 1989, has been given a reboot for a new Netflix series.
Melrose Place actor Grant Show stars as Blake, played in the original series by John Forsythe, and he’s just as strong a character.
‘He will ruthlessly defend his family, his business and his dynasty and will crush anything that gets in his way,’ says Grant.
In themes that echo the original series, Blake sparks a conflict in the family when he marries a much younger woman, Cristal, played by Vampire Diaries actress Nathalie Kelley. Blake’s daughter, Fallon (Elizabeth Gillies), feels isolated and is hungry for revenge.
‘The characters are essentially the same but it’s set in the current day and things are slicker’, explains Grant.
However, one thing that’s changed is the location. ‘It’s moved from Denver to Atlanta,’ says Grant. ‘Atlanta is really vibrant right now and this allows for a lot of flashier stuff to go on in the show.’
Meanwhile, there have been rumours that Joan Collins, who became a household name as waspish Alexis, could make a guest appearance. Grant teases,
‘We refer to her a lot on the show and if she’s not there in person, she is definitely there in spirit!’
