Things come to a head as Laura makes a lastditch attempt to bring rapist Andrew to justice
Despite their dogged efforts, teacher Laura (Joanne Froggatt) and detective Vanessa (Shelley Conn) seem no closer to making their rapist Andrew (Ioan Gruffudd) pay for his crimes as the tense thriller concludes. When the creepy doctor starts another relationship, however, will his new love become his next victim or will he finally get his comeuppance?
Schoolteacher Laura’s traumatic battle to prove she was raped by surgeon Andrew draws to a shocking close in the finale of ITV thriller
Liar this week.
While Laura’s bid to frame her rapist after drugging and kidnapping him has already failed, pregnant detective Vanessa Harmon (Shelley Conn), who was also assaulted by Andrew, has been unable to find the crucial evidence she needs to put him away.
Meanwhile, twisted Andrew is still trying to cover his tracks and asks his son, Luke (Jamie Flatters), to give him an alibi. But he’s also starting to feel more at ease and is romancing a young woman named Charlotte (played by Laura Aikman).
‘Time has passed and while Laura is getting on with her life as much as she can, Andrew’s in the early stages of a new relationship,’ says Ioan Gruffudd, who plays Andrew. ‘His prediction that Vanessa won’t find anything on him has come true and he does seem to have got away with his crimes.’
However, when Laura (Joanne Froggatt) then learns that Andrew is dating again, she’s determined to stop Charlotte suffering the same fate and makes a final risky move to nail Andrew. But as the pressure mounts, will Laura be able to finally bring him down?
‘It has become a real cat-and-mouse game,’ says Ioan. ‘Andrew is enjoying the control – it’s almost a drug to him. The more he gets away with it, the more arrogant and possibly overconfident he becomes with his methods.’
As the action moves towards a stunning climax, Ioan hopes that viewers will be left feeling surprised and unsettled by what they learn.
‘There are some big and exciting twists!’ Ioan teases. ‘There will be things that are left open-ended but I hope that viewers will be both satisfied and also left slightly uneasy and uncomfortable.’
