Ar­chiv­ists work­ing to pre­serve the his­tory of the world’s first gar­den city are ap­peal­ing for ex­tra help.

Staff and vol­un­teers at the Gar­den City Col­lec­tion Study Cen­tre in Letch­worth have spent the past year con­serv­ing and digi­tis­ing the 80,000 items held in its ar­chives, which to­gether tell the story of the town’s 19th- cen­tury ori­gins through to the present day.

How­ever, the team be­hind the project is now seek­ing ad­di­tional help with clean­ing, la­belling and pack­ing items, which in­clude doc­u­ments re­lat­ing to the gar­den city pi­o­neer, Sir Ebenezer Howard – a name Who Do You Think You Are?? view­ers will recog­nise as the great grand­fa­ther of Una Stubbs.
