ELOPED TO SHEFFIELD

Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine - - ON THE RECORD -

The police in Sheffieldreceived a telegram on Saturday from Mr Frederick Gibson, landlord of the Royal Oak Inn, Ely, to the effect that his wife, Susannah Gibson, had that day eloped with a man named Henry Wright, who was about twelve months ago their lodger.

The renegade couple were traced to Peterborough, where it was found that they had booked for Sheffield. Police-sergeant Matthews and Police-constable Wint were deputed to go to the Midland Station, Sheffield, to await the train.Itarrived at one o’clock on Sunday morning, and the happy (?) couple were at once apprehended.

Great credit is due to the officers for their perspicuity, inasmuch as the woman was not attired as described. Her gay Lothario was also in private clothes.
