Group at Hams

Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine - - Q&A -

This photograph was found among my grandmother’s possessions. Unfortunately there is no date on it but it does say ‘Group at Hams’. Could you give me any idea when the picture was taken and possibly where? We wondered if it was a boys’ school? Lynn Bryant, by email

This photo is entitled ‘Group at Hams’ – but can you help Lynn Bryant find out more details? Liverpool in 1849. On the certificate, his father is given as Charles Conway and he was a mariner. I cannot find either on the 1841 census. I have found a possible line with a Nathaniel Conway, born to Charles and Rebecca Conway in Oxford in 1818. The Merchant Seaman’s Records come up with a Nathaniel Conway, but while the FamilySearch website gives his place of birth as Oxfordshire and therefore fits, Findmypast comes up with Liverpool. Can anyone help me work out which line to take? Ronald Jones, by email
