warvices/ library/mrc If you are unable to find employment records for your ancestor, an alternative might be the records of unions or professional associations. Step forward the University of Warwick’s Modern Records Centre, which looks after various trade union archives and whose website has lots of useful tips. There’s a list of commonly searched trades and occupations, adapted from a 1927 dictionary produced by the Ministry of Labour, which links to more detailed information about allied unions. Some of the union material held here is available via Findmypast ( findmyticles/ university- of-warwick-partner-page), and the Centre also looks after motor industry records, especially relating to the Rover Group.
