The new wills ordering service from the Probate Office

Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine - - CONTENTS -

1 Visit probatesearch.service.gov.uk and select the appropriate tab (“Wills and Probate 1996 to present”, “Wills and Probate 1858-1996” or “Soldiers’ Wills”). Add surname and year of death and hit ‘Search’. If there’s no result, click ‘Previous’ or ‘Next year’. 2 A copy of the appropriate calendar page will appear. You may have to search the next page to find the correct person, especially with common surnames. If you don’t find them, search a few years after their death as probate may have been granted later. 3 Enter the details in the boxes on the right-hand side to order a copy for £10. Check that the entry says ‘probate’ or ‘will’ first as some who died without leaving a will are still in the calendar. You will receive an email within a few days when the will is ready to download.
