QFreda Storrar is in search of information about her grandfather, Henry John Moss, who disappeared shortly after the birth of his daughter Elizabeth in 1896.

AStephen Ward wrote again to say he thought Henry may have left the country: “On the 1891 census Elizabeth, then aged one, is living with her mother and her parents, although the mother is still listed as married, so perhaps she thought he would come back.” He tracked down possible candidates for his immigration on Findmypast to both Boston and Australia. John Daffurn also contacted us to say Henry could have joined the navy: “I’ve found a crew list entry for a Henry Moss in July 1901, born in Chester aged 38. He had been on the crew of the Orcana, a hospital ship, during the Boer War and was now on the Orotava, a troop-carrying ship, to South Africa.”
