Sussex illegitimacy records on the web
Details of children born out of wedlock between 1793 and 1834 in East Sussex have been uploaded to the web. Kerry Baldwin, who volunteers at The Keep near Brighton, has added descriptions of more than 800 bastardy bonds held by the archive centre to its online catalogue. Covering cases heard at Burwash magistrates’ court, the entries can reveal the mother’s name, sex of the child and information about the alleged father. Explore the entries now at bit.ly/1SicDR9.
