HEADFORT HOUSE/ Kells, Ireland
I recently visited Headfort House in Kells, Ireland, where my grandmother worked in service around 1901 and where she met my grandfather, working there as a groom. The house is now a boarding school but I was assured that the long stone corridor in the servants’ area, which has several metal rings embedded in it spaced out along the floor, was there in 1900. No one could tell me what the rings were used for. Does anyone know their purpose? Janet Gore, by email
Can you explain the metal rings in Janet Gore’s photograph of Headfort House?
