Explosive connection

Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine - - WRITE IN -

I am writing to you regarding the Reader Story included in the August issue of WDYTYA? Magazine concerning the Clerkenwell Bombing. Sarah Ann Hodgkinson (née Pettifer), who is on Anita Horne’s tree, is also on my family tree.

I found the piece very interesting, and to find out that she had died as a result of a bomb attack that led to the last public hanging, was all news to me.

This is a big piece of history and I didn’t know about it until I read about it in the magazine – I was thrilled! Lesley Batt, by email Editor replies: Thank you for your email, Lesley. I’m glad you enjoyed the article. Thank you also to Victor Nutt who wrote in to point out that we had the date of the explosion wrong. It happened on 13 not 16 December 1867.
