Top re­searchers re­ceive awards

Two re­searchers have re­ceived ma­jor ac­co­lades from the So­ci­ety of Ge­neal­o­gists ( SoG).

Wendy Hib­bitt and Peter Hig­gin­botham were both named as re­cip­i­ents of the SoG’s Cer­tifi­cate of Recog­ni­tion at the or­gan­i­sa­tion’s an­nual gen­eral meet­ing in June.

Mrs Hib­bitt, who has served as ar­chiv­ist for the Es­sex vil­lage of Writ­tle since 1990, was pre­sented with a Cer­tifi­cate of Recog­ni­tion cit­ing her hard work to en­sure that lo­cal his­tory and her­itage had been “pre­served, doc­u­mented and avail­able for all”.

The se­cond re­cip­i­ent, Peter Hig­gin­botham, was recog­nised for his “ex­ten­sive” re­search on work­houses and chil­dren’s homes, hav­ing pub­lished sev­eral books on the top­ics and cre­at­ing the suc­cess­ful on­line re­sources work­houses.org.uk and childrens homes.org.uk.

At the time of go­ing to press, Mr Hig­gin­botham was due to be pre­sented with his Cer­tifi­cate of Recog­ni­tion on Wed­nes­day 23 Septem­ber, when he will de­liver a talk on the Poor Law at the Fes­ti­val of Free­doms in Lon­don.
