Top researchers receive awards
Two researchers have received major accolades from the Society of Genealogists ( SoG).
Wendy Hibbitt and Peter Higginbotham were both named as recipients of the SoG’s Certificate of Recognition at the organisation’s annual general meeting in June.
Mrs Hibbitt, who has served as archivist for the Essex village of Writtle since 1990, was presented with a Certificate of Recognition citing her hard work to ensure that local history and heritage had been “preserved, documented and available for all”.
The second recipient, Peter Higginbotham, was recognised for his “extensive” research on workhouses and children’s homes, having published several books on the topics and creating the successful online resources workhouses.org.uk and childrens homes.org.uk.
At the time of going to press, Mr Higginbotham was due to be presented with his Certificate of Recognition on Wednesday 23 September, when he will deliver a talk on the Poor Law at the Festival of Freedoms in London.
