I’m looking for a William Rockwood born in England around 1742. From information in merchant Benjamin Lester’s journal, William may have come over to Newfoundland from Poole either independently or as a servant of Lester who was a prominent merchant of Trinity, Newfoundland, and Poole, England.

The journal entry is dated 4 April 1762 and also mentions someone called Gardner. Rockwood and Gardner had both travelled that day to Trinity from Dildo (about 70 miles by water in Newfoundland). I’ve found many William Rockwoods born in South Shields, Durham, and a William Rookwood [sic] born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, in 1731 but no one connected with Poole. Does anyone recognise my William Rockwood? William George Reid is wearing a sash showing he belonged to the Temple of Independent Order of True Templars
