In 1939, it be­came com­pul­sory to mark ve­hi­cles with for­ma­tion signs on the front and side. This one ap­pears to be the Red Ea­gle in­signia of 4th In­dian Divi­sion. The prob­lem is, they served in East and North Africa, then Italy, not in In­dia. Per­haps the men had served with that divi­sion be­fore trans­fer­ring to In­dia.
