QIn the October issue, Phil McLeod was trying to find Mary Salter’s baptism and evidence of an Irish brother, Joseph. After checking censuses, Steve Ward agrees that Mary was most likely born in Wilton, suggesting Phil recheck Hockwold and Wilton church records. He also thinks Joseph Salter may be a relative having moved to London by 1851. “He and his wife could have had their children in Wilton,” he says, adding, “This may indicate a time of arrival from Ireland and you could check immigration records.”

Jeff Ward meanwhile wonders if Phil has considered nonconformist records, given the high number in Norfolk and Suffolk at this time. He adds, “Also the possible Irish connection implies a Catholic involvement, which could involve a private baptism.”
