1Bomb Sight bombsight.org
This is the mapped bomb census of London between October 1940 and June 1941. Click on one of the red symbols and a box reveals the type of bomb, location, source, presentday address and any further details. You can also explore contemporary photographs and people’s stories associated with the area, taken from the BBC’s People’s War archive ( bbc.co.uk/history/ww2peopleswar). The default aggregate view quickly gives you an idea of the sheer scale of the Blitz – zoom out and it rapidly turns into a sea of red. There’s an allied Android app that offers an Augmented Reality option – using your phone’s camera and GPS it displays bombs that fell where you are standing.
