Why have you picked it?

“Hannah Sudbury’s application was my favourite document because it revealed not only her strong personality but it also, crucially, laid out her (and therefore Derek’s) Huguenot ancestry. This application reveals that Joseph de la Plaigne, Derek’s 6x great grandfather, was a Huguenot. This led us to numerous further documents detailing the double life Joseph led in France, his imprisonment, and his incredible flight to England.”

Where did you find it?

The 1891 census listed Hannah in thee French Hospital. This led us to the French Hospital pital records held by the Huguenot Society Library ( huguenotsociety.uguenotsociety.org.uk/library-and-archive.html).ml).
