“I loved the way this doc­u­ment summed up Ge­orge O’Mul­lan’s dan­ger­ous sit­u­a­tion: as Mark put it, ‘ be­tween Cap­tain Rock and a hard place’. In other words, stuck be­tween the ab­sen­tee land­lords and the poor lo­cal ten­ant farm­ers. This doc­u­ment con­fi­fi­fi­firmed that Ge­orge was in ‘ man­age­ment’ – a notch above other lo­cal Catholics in the so­cial hi­er­ar­chy.”
