It’s amazing how much more accessible records have become – even in the eight years since we launched this magazine. I hope you can take John’s line further back. shows the stokehold of a steam ship where the stokers are feeding the boiler furnaces, which drove the steam engines/turbines – there is no such thing as a “coal engine” as your caption says. Another image shows part of a switchboard and control board. The switchboards were never “manned” as you say and the radio operators never spent their time in an engine room.
