QMaureen Stanley was looking for her grandmother’s birth certificate and census entries in our October issue. “There is a Margaret Ann McCormick on the 1911 census for Lisburn, Antrim, Ireland, aged 20,” says Stephen Ward, who found the transcription on Ancestry and suggests Maureen contact the National Archives of Ireland to view the full results.
Stephen found details of Margaret’s father James, a soldier who appears on the census with her, on Forces War Records ( forces-warrecords.co.uk).” He also found an Eleanor Jane McCormick, born in India in 1854. “She could have been a sister of James. This suggests the father of James was probably in the Crimean campaign and then in India afterwards.” Margaret went on to name two of her daughters Jane and Eleanor, which adds more evidence of a connection.
