Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine - - GEM FROM THE ARCHIVE -

nationalarchives.gov.uk/ help-with-your-research It’s been a while since The National Archives’ site occupied our top spot in this feature, but if you’re just starting to investigate the career of a rating/officer, there’s no better place to start. From the tweaked Research Guides or Online Collections areas you can choose the ‘Military and maritime’ option, then refine your results to focus on the Royal Navy ( RN) and Royal Marines. These lead to the likes of Royal Marines’ service records (1842-1925), plus guides to Royal Navy workers in dockyards. Each guide has details of what sources are held where (on and offline), and what can be searched via Discovery. There’s also the Trafalgar Ancestors database at national archives.gov.uk/trafalgarancestors.
