JOKER PAINTS STONE LION
When the Arboretum at Lincoln, which has a huge stone lion in the centre, was closed at night all was as usual, and the lion was in its customary condition. But when Lincoln awakened next morning the lion had changed to an astonishing thing of red and green. The cause was paint and a practical joker. On the pedestal on which the lion stands the words “Brighter Lincoln” were painted in black letters. The news spread quickly, and crowds of people flocked to see the painted lion, but early in the day a large tarpaulin was placed over it. Shrouded, the lion was still a centre of attraction, however, and there were many conjectures as to the identity of the perpetrator. But who he is has not yet been discovered.
