Artist fundraises for Somme memorial shrouds
Members of the public are invited to contribute to an art project commemorating soldiers killed in the Battle of the Somme. Shrouds of the Somme is crowdfunding £150,000 to complete the project after it launched on 6 May at the Honourable Artillery Company in London. Artist Rob Heard will hand-stitch calico shrouds for 72,396 12-inch figures, one for each British soldier whose body was never found. If the project is successful, the figures will be displayed in London in November 2018, and donors will receive a shroud after the exhibition is finished. To contribute, go to bit.ly/ 2shroud.
