Findmypast adds Somerset records
Millions of records of births, marriages and deaths in Somerset have been added to findmypast.co.uk. The new collection includes transcripts of records from Somerset Archives, including over 2.1 million parish baptisms, 258,000 marriage banns, 1 million marriages and 1.5 million burials. It spans four centuries, with some dating back to 1501. Famous people found in the records include scientist Andrew Crosse, who was baptised on 23 July 1784 in Broomfield. Crosse became famous for bizarre experiments with crystal formations. Another notable record is the 1896 baptism of Reginald Francis Cheese, father of the actor John Cleese.
