CLAIMED BY TWO ARMIES
A peculiar case was brought before a J.P. Court held at Linlithgow on Thursday – Mr James Russell on the bench. Antonio Ezzi, living at 3 South Street, Armadale, was charged with having failed to report for military service at Glencorse when called upon, and on his behalf Mr J. C. Howie, solicitor, Bathgate, tendered a plea of not guilty, on the grounds that the accused is an Italian, and therefore not subject to the Military Service Acts in this country. Mr Kidd, J.P. Fiscal, said the accused was born in Cupar-Angus and he was a British subject. He understood the position of the accused to be that he had as a matter of fact enrolled himself in the Italian Army.
