Who Do You Think You Are?

The ‘Common mistakes in genealogy’ feature in the February 2018 issue was not only helpful and informative, but gave me double the enjoyment because of the accompanying photographs. What is the story behind the photo of the miserable, ageing newlyweds, with the hilarious caption “Never assume

that a bride is 21 years old”?! I was both amused and disturbed by the image, with my mind boggling at the bizarre presence of a cartoon cat cushion in the background. To then turn the page and see the delightful photograph of a large Edwardian family, whose expressions seemed to me to be so modern-day and alive, it looked like they could have just been 21st-century folk in fancy dress. I adore the lady in the centre, slouching sideways in her chair, with a barely suppressed smirk on her face. Fabulous! Thank you for always providing so much food for thought (and imagination!) in your excellent articles and well-placed images. Michelle Hunter, by email Editor replies: They’re great pictures, aren’t they! We love the look on the groom’s face – I wonder what he’s thinking…
