Read all about it in newspapers
The British Newspaper Archive (BNA) has hundreds of digitised issues covering the 20th century; you can access the archive via britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk or, if you have a ‘Pro’ subscription, findmypast.co.uk. Coverage of the Uxbridge & W. Drayton Gazette, for example, goes up to 1999. Use this resource to find obituaries, as well as sporting achievements and other news.
You can also filter your search to check only family notices. Although historically only middleand upper-class families published notices of births, marriages and deaths, as the 20th century progressed you will find people from all walks of life appearing in these columns. At the same time newspapers increasingly published photographs, so you may even find images of your relatives.
