Daugh­ter of Ma­haraja Duleep Singh and god­daugh­ter of Queen Vic­to­ria, Princess Sophia Alexan­dra Duleep Singh was one of sev­eral South Asian women to pi­o­neer the cause of Bri­tish women’s rights, even be­com­ing pres­i­dent of the Com­mit­tee of the Suf­fragette Fel­low­ship. Dur­ing the war, she vol­un­teered at a Red Cross hospi­tal in Brighton, nurs­ing In­dian sol­diers evac­u­ated from the West­ern Front.
