Stage twins in new venture
TWIN sisters with a background on the stage are realising their dream of opening a theatre academy.
Amy and Hannah Goodwin lived in Handforth for 20 years and went to Wilmslow High School.
On leaving school they went to Laine Theatre Arts school in London to study musical theatre before working in the industry in Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the UK.
They have just completed a stint as Cinderella and the Fairy Godmother at the Clonter Opera Theatre in Congleton.
The sisters are currently starring in the national UK tour of musical Some Enchanted Evening.
Amy and Hannah have their own company called You Should Be Dancing (YSBD) which does workshops in dance, singing and drama for children.
They run Glee clubs in London and Hannah, who lives in Disley, has run clubs at Wilmslow Grange and St Benedict’s Primary schools. Now they are taking their venture to the next level and opening a YSBD academy.
Hannah said: “We’re excited to be opening our theatre school.
“Our aim is to encourage children’s creativity, self-esteem and confidence while having lots of fun.
“It’s a highly enjoyable opportunity for children to learn and expand their knowledge in this profession, with handy tips to give them that star quality.
“We also like to give children the opportunity to perform in showcases for parents at the end of our workshops.
“From theatres to school halls, children get to perform in front of an audience and receive applause for all their hard work.
“Every child is a star, it’s our job to help them shine.”
The classes are taught by professional performers who have worked in theatre, TV and film.
The academy’s patron is Rachel Sargent who has appeared in various West End productions.
Hannah said: “Me and my sister have always wanted to bring the West End experience home to share with local children in the community.”
The academy will be every Sunday at Base Camp, Oak Avenue, Cheadle Hulme. There is a free trial on Sunday, April 26 and the official opening is on Sunday, May 3.
