RGANISERS are planning for a record turn-out at this year’s Starlight Walk in aid of East Cheshire Hospice.
More than 500 people took part in last year’s event and there are signs that even more will turn up for this year’s walk on Friday, April 24.
“It would be fantastic to break our attendance numbers for this important fundraising event,” says fundraising events officer Jess Ruth. “I’ve got my fingers crossed for great weather.”
The family-friendly walk, in the beautiful grounds of Capesthorne Hall, is one of the charity’s flagship fundraising events – raising more than £40,000 last year.
Walkers are able to choose their distance – one loop of the route for 2.5k, two loops for 5k or four loops for 10k.
Many who walk do so in memory of a loved one, with many either taking a candle or personalising a lantern or pebble to carry on the walk.
This year’s theme is ‘festivals’ so sunglasses, wellies and waterproofs are must-have accessories, with prizes awarded on the night for the best outfit.
The Starlight Walk is a carnival occasion with face-painting, live music, hot food and drinks. Gates open from 6pm, well before the dusk, and the walk starts at 7.30pm.
Local rock and pop band JukeBox will be getting the party atmosphere going on the evening and they will be joined by DJ Ditchy from Silk FM.
Free parking is available.
Entry costs £15 for adults and £10 for children aged between four and 15. .
