DANCE company providing affordable community classes are hoping to hot step to a new venue in south Manchester.
Dance group organiser Michael Delany is in talks with The Dandelion Community, in Wythenshawe, to find a venue suitable to hold the dance sessions.
Michael – newly resident to Wythenshawe - aims to help young people build confidence and self-esteem through dance and performing arts.
Michael’s community work has previously seen him nominated as young achiever of the year in Manchester council’s Be Proud awards.
The experience of dancing alongside a young person with learning difficulties inspired Michael to start his own dance company.
Michael realized that some people may need extra help and attention in learning routines that other classes in the area were unable to provide.
Having secured funding of £1,000 from a local charity the dance group has been able to purchase specialist lighting and costume.
The sessions are intended to be affordably priced and cost between 50p and £1.50 for up to four hours of dance – making them easily accessible to everyone.
Michael devotes care and attention to his students and finds the results of his hard work extremely rewarding.
Michael said: “My greatest achievement so far has been working with a young girl who – when she first joined our classes – had a major balance issue and was unable to stand, without support, on one leg. We provided intensive one to one sessions in technique, training her leg muscles. In six months her balance had improved dramatically and she is now able to confidently stand on one leg.”
